Charlotte is a beautiful county, located on the western coast of Florida’s peninsula, along the Gulf of Mexico in South-Eastern United States. With a population of over 159978, Punta Gorda is its principal city. Its name, Charlotte, has been derived from English Charles, Spanish Carlos and Native American Calos, representing its historical background. It’s interesting to know that English Soccer star, Wayne Rooney, also owns a home in Port Charlotte.
2011 MuscleMania Pro-Qualifier event will be held, this Saturday, on 8th October. In the build up to this big bodybuilding and fitness event, in this rather small county, let’s put some light on its fitness facilities and gyms.
This weekend, there will be events at Conference Center (Punta Gorda) and Charlotte Harbor. Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte are home to a good number of fitness clubs and gyms. Curves for Women, Fitness Gym and Achieve Fitness are some of the famous names with some good gyms in Charlotte County. The standards of gyms and fitness clubs are improving in the county.
YMCA (Youth Men’s Christian Association), one of the largest nonprofit organizations of the country has also built centers, equipped with state-of-the-art fitness equipment. These centers attract a lot of fitness enthusiasts and customers from private gyms and fitness clubs. Some health-club owners in Charlotte County have confirmed this trend. The Charlotte County YMCA has also planned to build a new fitness club at Franz-Ross Park. One of the popular public fitness centers is Charlotte County Fitness & Recreation Center in Charlotte Court House.
The county holds some big names in fitness like Brian McIsaac, a local bodybuilder who is MuscleMania Grand Masters Division Champion and a fitness guru who can be credited for bringing MuscleMania to the county and convincing ESPN to bring the event to his own backyard where he grew up training in a local Punta Gorda gym. “We will be expecting up to 200 of the finest natural bodybuilders, fitness, figure and bikini contestants. Some of the top modeling agencies in the country will be looking for new talent here in our own backyard,” Mr McIsaac said. “The programs will be based on cutting-edge research and technology,” he added.
It is for certain that this event is going to generate interest and motivate the local talent here in Charlotte County. Generating interest is also good news for some of the county’s fitness gyms like Achieve Fitness gyms, Dungeon gyms (a North Port gym with branches in Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda) and Fitness Gym (a famous Port Charlotte gym) and many more, helping in the popularity of the local events such as Fit Momma Contest at the Punta Gorda Club where the ladies are given incentives to participate in the competition to be selected as Super Moms.
The registration for the MuscleMania event will be held on Friday. The big event will be held on Saturday, including Junior, Masters, Novice, Women, Light, Middle and Heavy Weight competitions. Model Florida, Figure Florida, Ms. Bikini Florida and Fitness Florida Peagent will also feature at the event. A good boost for the county’s talent and gyms, Biceps Up!
